This is a really beautifully restored detached house with a wonderful garden that overlooks a breathtaking medieval village in one of Abruzzo’s four national parks and has spectacular views to the wooded hillsides beyond and the high snow-capped mountains further down the valley.
The dark wooden entrance doors open on to a large vaulted hallway with a stone tiled floor, which in turn leads to the original stone staircase and upstairs to two big bedrooms, both with balconies and vaulted ceilings, and a bathroom. There’s a third bedroom, also vaulted, next to the entrance hall. The hallway also has a wooden staircase that takes you down into the living room with its exposed vaulted rock walls, open fireplace and french windows out to the garden. Walking through to the kitchen there’s a fantastic brick vaulted ceiling, and more doors to outside. The kitchen leads through to a wonderful cellar built into the rock, and also a fascinatingly unique bathroom complete with the original rock walls. The pretty garden is south facing and gets the sun all day, with the only shade provided by the delicious plum, apple and almond trees, and the grape vine growing up the house.
The house has been sympathetically restored to retain as many original characteristics as possible, including vaulted brick ceilings, terracotta floors, rock walls, and natural stone door and window frames. All electric, gas and water services have been newly connected and there are radiators throughout. There are also wooden double glazed windows throughout, and a recently installed kitchen.
Just 25 minutes from L’Aquila, 45 from Pescara, and 90 from Rome, the village of Carapelle Calvisio is easy to get to, and is a short drive to supermarkets and shops, fantastic restaurants, ski resorts, ancient Roman ruins and caves, and enables one to enjoy the relaxed way of life that comes with living in Abruzzo.
